Open Court Lessons Nov. 2-6 Here we begin turning over the letter sound cards. Each letter has a sound card story that the children will learn. We will focus on beginning as well as ending sounds for each consonant. We will also begin focusing on short and long vowel sounds. We will begin with the letter Ss. The children will begin formal letter writing by practicing the letters on a worksheet. November 2-13 brings us a short themed science unit about nocturnal animals. Bonnie, with Classroom Safari, does a wonderful job of introducing this subject to young children. After seeing the animals and learning scientific facts about their physical characteristics and life styles the children will then be able to write and illustrate their own stories . Soup from a stone-well Fancy That!!!!! A literature-based unit using the story “Stone Soup” will be introduced. We will be using four different versions of the story (from around the world) for the children to compare and contrast. On Tues. 11/24 we will enjoy our own soup fit for kings & queens! We will set the stage by decorating our large tables with paper tablecloths, adorn ourselves in hand-made crowns and enjoy our soup by candlelight-”Ah, soup from a stone, well fancy that!” We will also be sequencing and illustrating our own Stone Soup Books.
